BORN TOO SOON

Over 1,000 babies die each year in the UK due to premature birth.

Globally, it’s the biggest killer of children under 5.

It’s too many. Far too many.

Jack was born prematurely

Despite these shocking statistics, and the enormous impact premature birth has on babies and their families, research in this area is still under-funded, limiting efforts to develop treatments to help prevent preterm birth in the future.

I've seen too many times the worry of a mother being rushed to hospital too soon – her baby being taken away to neonatal care. So tiny, so defenceless, so fragile – feeling so helpless. Having a premature baby isn’t something that you expect to happen, but unfortunately this is the experience for more and more mums worldwide.

Fighting to stop premature birth

Action Medical Research is a community of passionate individuals who are committed to fighting for children’s lives. We fight for some of the toughest fights our children face.

We know through medical research we can stop the devastation caused by premature birth.

That's why we've launched our BORN TOO SOON campaign.

Together we will find the answers.

Parents. Children. Families. Communities.

We’re all working together to raise £1 million by 2020 to fund groundbreaking medical research that could go on to benefit millions.

We all have a part to play. Find out how you can get involved – raise money, spread the word, give some time, or take on a challenge?

Together we will find the answers. Together we will help STOP babies being born too soon.

Funding groundbreaking research

We’re already funding amazing research projects. Research that has the potential to save lives.

And we know from past breakthroughs - that have benefited thousands of babies and families - just what a difference medical research can make. Find out more about some of our past successes and research underway right now.

We know that with for more medical research we can save even more lives.

Together we are unstoppable.

Jenny and Elijah

Elijah's story

Born prematurely at only 25 weeks, Elijah sadly lost his fight for life at just 37 days old.

He led a very traumatic little life. He died sleeping on my chest in the small hours - that's when I joined the fight to stop premature birth.

This really is a cause close to my heart. My mum developed pre-eclampsia when she was expecting me, and I was born prematurely – I could so easily have not been here today if it wasn’t for medical advances. Premature birth is still the biggest killer of babies in the UK. So join me, and fight back.
